In my campaign announcement video, I made the following statement:

“…existing services the city delivers need to be provided in efficient, effective ways that maximize the benefit while minimizing the cost to the user.  To meet these needs a spirit of creativity and innovation is required within City Hall and our community needs to collaborate with municipal neighbours to deliver services that promotes economies of scale and eliminates costly duplication of effort.”

The key accomplishment over the last four years in this respect was the creation of the Edmonton Metro Transit Services Commission.  On January 26, 2021, Minister Ric McIvor proclaimed into existence this commission that includes St. Albert, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Devon, Leduc, and Beaumont.  The commission, which is slated to commence providing regional transit services in September of 2022 will provide transit services within the member municipalities in a more efficient and effective manner by eliminating duplication of services and capitalizing on economies of scale provided by a large organization with significant buying power.

Working with regional municipalities to reap financial rewards is possible in other areas of St. Albert service provision as well. 

Examples would include fire department training activities, municipal purchasing agreements, joint snow storage opportunities, waste management opportunities, energy production opportunities to name a few.

Working together for the benefit of all municipalities requires a cooperative mindset which understands that the best outcome for all will require a give-and-take of thoughts and opinions and a determination to persevere through the difficult formative stages to realize the desired goal.

This can be done!  We have proven it so!
