The decision before the citizens of St. Albert is truly a leadership question.  At the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce election forum, I presented the following:

Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe that this election is about leadership. The specific issues faced by our community may change from election to election, but in reality, the choice before the electorate is about who best represents the will of the community and who will lead our city appropriately and deliver sound governance for the next four years.

So how does this happen?

First, Council members are the governors of the city and as such must model to all young and old alike, behaviour above reproach. I believe whatever the Council agenda or how divided individual Councillors are on a specific matter, public discourse on a topic should always be professional and worthy of the community they serve.

Second, I believe that for cities like St. Albert to remain sustainable into the future, they need to embrace new ways of addressing community needs. I believe that regional collaboration for mutual benefit and collective service delivery models, all need to be explored.

Third, I believe that those who are elected need to be prepared to work locally, regionally and nationally to ensure the needs of a city like St. Albert are acknowledged and indeed addressed. Ladies and gentlemen, to quote an old saying – the world is run by those who show up. Your leaders need to participate!

Finally, I believe I have modelled such behaviour and work ethic over the last two terms. Given that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour, you can be confident of my commitment to work hard on your behalf and in the best interests of St. Albert.
